New campaign to support one of the most active money transfer markets in Europe
BUCHAREST, Romania, Oct. 5, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- To engage with Romanians in key European countries, MoneyGram (NASDAQ: MGI) is launching a campaign praising Romanian workers abroad and their families back home. The creative backbone of the European-wide campaign is based on the concept of 'DOR', which is a distinct Romanian word for 'positive nostalgia.'

"It is something more than a word. 'DOR' evokes emotions and brings back memories of home, childhood and family," said Pete Ohser, chief revenue officer Americas and Europe at MoneyGram. "MoneyGram always works to connect family and friends and is proud to support this important part of Romanian culture and tradition through our 'DOR' campaign."
"Romania is one of the key European markets for MoneyGram. To meet the increasing demand for reliable money transfer services, we have expanded our agent network to 3,500 locations across the country and opened a new flagship office in central Bucharest," said Radu Pojoga, regional director for the Balkans at MoneyGram. "As part of making money transfers easier for our customers, in 2016 we have launched cash-to-mobile and cash-to-account in cooperation with Earthport - our partner providing cross-border payments services to banks. Now Romanians can send money directly to mobile wallet or any bank account in local currency," added Pojoga.
Romania has seen significant growth in money transfers in recent years fueled by an increasingly mobile workforce. The World Bank estimates there are more than 3.4 million migrant Romanians working throughout the world. Nearly one million Romanians live in Italy, 785,000 migrated to Spain, 355,000 to Germany and 150,000 to Great Britain.
"Today we're launching the 'We know what DOR is'™ campaign in six countries - Romania, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Germany, Italy and Spain," said Nicoleta Visan, senior marketing manager for Romania. "It will be visible across all key media including in-home, out-of-home and digital channels, and in many agent locations."
According to the World Bank, an estimated $3.2 billion in money transfers was sent into Romania in 2015. This constitutes for 1.7% of the country's GDP. More than $930 million was sent from Italy, $740 million flowed from Spain and another $422 million arrived from Germany. Spain ($118 million), Moldova ($94 million) and Italy ($87 million) are key send corridors out of Romania.
