-- Visual TruView helps one of Europe's busiest container terminals monitor application performance and quickly remediate problems
EVERETT, Washington, Aug. 27, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Fluke Networks today announced that Visual TruView, its unified application and network performance monitoring and troubleshooting appliance, has been deployed by MSC Home Terminal in Antwerp, Belgium, one of Europe's busiest container terminals. Visual TruView arms the terminal's IT team with a holistic, independent view of its critical applications and network, reducing the impact performance issues can have on charging and discharging cargo, and speeding problem isolation and troubleshooting when problems do occur.

With 1,200 employees, two data centers, six physical distribution locations, and 130 access switches, the terminal charges and discharges containers on vessels, rails, trucks and on the yards 24x7. MSC Home Terminal manages turnover through one primary, complex application, Terminal Operation Systems (TOS), which is made up from different components ranging from desktop cameras for number plate recognition, badge readers, thin clients and more. Whenever problems arise, cargo speeds slow and ripple throughout the terminal, leaving application, server and network teams finger pointing. Visual TruView was selected to provide an independent view of overall network and application performance, lessening the risk of performance impacting the cargo service.
"When there is a problem or slowdown, it's hard to catch up even when the application is back on line and working properly," said Tamara Lievens, ICT Infrastructure Manager at MSC Home Terminal. "TruView has greatly reduced both the risk of performance related issues as well as shortened the time to identify, isolate and resolve the critical problems. The visibility allows us to focus on the right area much faster and that is the key to our business success."
Introduced early this year, Visual TruView is the industry's first truly unified, single-box network and application performance monitoring system. Integrating key, vendor-neutral data across the network, applications, element managers, and Stream to Disc (S2D) with up to 10G performance into a single dashboard, Visual TruView makes it easy for IT teams to drill down into slows, packets, or transactions of any user, site, or period in time in just a few clicks. Plus, with automatic configuration and identification of applications, set-up of the appliance takes 15 minutes or less.
"When we looked at the market leaders in the space, we determined that Fluke Networks not only had the best product for monitoring end-to-end performance, but its roadmap showed the organization is going in the right direction," said Lievens. "The system has become our go to monitoring tool for analysis in cases of performance issues, where it's often difficult to prove and pinpoint the cause. By using the system, we win a lot of time in troubleshooting and we have vendor independent reports which make it more efficient in resolving problems, and give us confidence in our overall IT monitoring and IT management capability."
