LONDON, October 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
Smart travel is a hot item on the country's political agenda. After years of effort and millions in investment, several isolated smart ticketing schemes have been launched across the country, with a varied degree of success. Yet, simple flexible fares, ticketing without queues and a single nationwide travel pass still remain a distant dream. That dream will finally become a reality with MultiPass.
Inspired by its sci-fi namesake from Luc Besson's film "The Fifth Element", MultiPass offers a simple value proposition: seamless best price travel across Britain.
No need to queue for tickets - just turn up and go. No need to think what ticket to buy - MultiPass always charges the lowest possible fare for any journey the passenger makes, on any transport mode, with any operator, at any time.
Consumers will also be able to use MultiPass to pay for snacks and drinks, car parking and other travel-related products and services.
MultiPass solves a number of pressing problems for transport operators too, by reducing costs, increasing revenues, improving capacity utilisation and enhancing customer experience. MultiPass platform incorporates several groundbreaking innovations, including virtual ticket gate and a futuristic multi-functional wallet compatible with the UK smart ticketing standard, ITSO.
The Technology Strategy Board, the innovation arm of the UK Government, awarded a special £1.1m grant to the industry consortium to pilot MultiPass. The consortium, led by TEDIPAY, a disruptive London-based startup, includes several key players from transport and ticketing industries: GuestLogix, GIS, Global Travel Ventures, Centre for Transport Studies at Imperial College London and transport operators including Abellio Greater Anglia.
The consortium will run live MultiPass pilots in London and Glasgow in early 2014, prior to full rollout.
