Multiple Elsevier Nursing Titles Honored by the American Journal of Nursing
PHILADELPHIA, February 19, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
Titles in several categories - Gerontologic Nursing, Maternal and Child Health, and Critical Care-Emergency - win AJN 2012 Book of the Year awards
Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, was recognized with three American Journal of Nursing (AJN) 2012 Book of the Year awards, including two for first place. Elsevier's books were honored in the Gerontologic Nursing, Maternal and Child Health, and Critical Care-Emergency Nursing categories.
The AJN has published an annual best-of list in nursing publishing since 1969. The judges who review the submissions in the Book of the Year program are experts in their categories and select and write reviews of the top three.
Ebersole and Hess' Toward Healthy Aging: Human Needs and Nursing Response, edited by Theris A. Touhy and Kathleen Jett (Mosby Elsevier), is the only gerontological nursing text that follows a wellness-based, holistic approach to older adult care. This title was awarded first place in the Gerontologic Nursing category, which recognizes publications focused on understanding older adults and their complex physical, emotional and social needs in all healthcare settings.
Nursing Care of Children: Principles and Practice, edited by Susan Rowen, James, Kristine Ann Nelson and Jean Weiler Ashwill (Saunders Elsevier), takes on a family focus, and teaches growth, development, and information on the major body system alterations needed. This title also received first place in the Maternal and Child Health category, which concerns family health and pediatrics.
Sheehy's Manual of Emergency Care, by the Emergency Nurses Association, edited by Belinda B. Hammond and Polly Gerber Zimmermann (Mosby Elsevier), offers complete, current coverage of the essentials emergency nurses need to know such as conditions commonly seen in the emergency setting, signs and symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, developmental considerations, patient education, and more. This title received third place in the Critical Care-Emergency Nursing category, which recognizes publications that address patients in critical care environments and their complex acute and emergent care needs.
"On behalf of our authors and editors, we are honored that these pioneering books were chosen to receive the AJN 2012 Book of the Year award," said Loren Wilson, Vice President and Publisher - Nursing, Elsevier. "These titles and the many others we collaborate on at Elsevier are proof of our continuing commitment to publishing the best, most innovative works that advance the nursing profession."
