National Instruments Selects Attivio AIE for Advanced Enterprise Search and Unified Information Access Roadmap
-- Active Intelligence Engine bests incumbent and "big-stack" technology vendors in competitive evaluation to power information discovery and analytics
NEWTON, Massachusetts, May 29, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Attivio today announced that National Instruments has selected the Active Intelligence Engine® (AIE®) to power its dot-com, eCommerce, intranet and CRM search capabilities. The announcement follows a competitive, multi-vendor evaluation designed to replace National Instruments' (NI) incumbent enterprise search supplier and enable more efficient, future-proof information discovery and analysis.
During an extensive vendor evaluation, a number of companies were quickly disqualified due to concerns about product roadmaps as a result of recent acquisitions, significant hardware outlays and service agreement costs. In the final round of comparisons, which included the open source option of Solr, NI concluded that Attivio AIE was best able to satisfy a number of key requirements – particularly in the areas of ontology-driven query completion (type-ahead), auto categorization, sentiment analysis, dictionary management, recommendations, language support and improved relevancy boosting – which the company would otherwise have to develop or support itself had it selected other options.
Other key factors in the decision were Attivio AIE's Linux and SQL support and patented ability to JOIN all related content and data at query time — with no advance data modeling, no "flattening" of data tables and no pre-defined joins between information sources required. Attivio was also very responsive to NI's needs, demonstrating a high level of support and quality product documentation that is easily accessible through the Attivio Developer Network (ADN). NI also performed a long-term cost competitiveness evaluation for its future project roadmap where AIE emerged as the overall leader.
"We are excited and anxious to roll out Attivio AIE and begin utilizing its new features, especially those that will empower our flagship search capabilities and improve access to information via our intranet across many geographies," remarked Kenn North, search product manager at National Instruments. "In the final evaluation, Attivio best met our key criteria with superb functionality and the flexibility to meet our current and future needs, including CRM search with advanced security and permissioning."
"As companies grapple with increasingly complex and dispersed enterprise data, they quickly realize the shortcomings of traditional search platforms, instead requiring that replacement technologies stand on their own, scale for the future, offer customization options and are flexible enough to support multiple solutions across the enterprise," said Ali Riaz, president and CEO of Attivio. "Attivio is proud to be selected by National Instruments as the strongest single source for powering its demanding information discovery and enterprise search needs."
