- Pulitzer Prize-Winning Editor Matt McAllester to Lead London-Based Team and EMEA Edition
NEW YORK, July 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Newsweek, a premier weekly news magazine and website owned by IBT Media, today announced that Matt McAllester has been named the new Editor of Newsweek Europe. Based in London, McAllester will oversee the magazine's EMEA (Europe/Middle East/Africa) edition and coverage across Europe, the Middle East and Africa beginning on August 17. McAllester will report directly to Newsweek's Editor in Chief, Jim Impoco.

As Editor of Newsweek Europe, McAllester will drive editorial content from Europe, the Middle East and Africa, overseeing the London-based staff writers as well as freelancers out in the field. He will work closely with Newsweek's New York headquarters on breaking news as well as features, and to oversee the EMEA edition of the magazine.

McAllester joins Newsweek from Time Magazine where he served as Europe Editor for the past two years. Previously, he was a contributing editor at Details magazine and before that spent 13 years as Correspondent, Reporter and ultimately Bureau Chief for Newsday. He has covered conflicts in Kosovo, Israel and the Palestinian Territories, Afghanistan, Iraq, Turkey, Nigeria and Lebanon and has reported in numerous other countries including Burma, Egypt, Morocco, Iran, Bosnia, Albania, Macedonia, Argentina, Spain, Poland, Germany, Italy, France and Montenegro. Over the course of his career, McAllester has won numerous awards including three Overseas Press Club citations and the Osborn Elliott Award for Excellence in Asian Journalism. He was also a member of Newsday's Pulitzer Prize-winning staff in 1997.
