No Power, No Chairs, and Other Office Move Catastrophes
LONDON, January 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Companies across the country have been plagued by disasters when relocating offices, according to a recent survey conducted by office design company, Maris Interiors.
Whereas many firms described projects running over time and over budget, some had much more dramatic stories to tell. One major public company described moving into their new offices to find there was no working power on their floor - a problem that took two days to resolve.
A firm of solicitors moved in and noticed their new floor had been incorrectly varnished - leaving a thick shoe-destroying goop. A magazine had a strange first day when they noticed no chairs had been ordered for their new office, and an internet consultancy claim they saw the funny side when they found that they had no phone or internet access whatsoever.
The most dramatic story came from a financial company who relocated in 2009, the first business to move into a brand new development. Unfortunately, their new office had been fitted out on completely the wrong floor - and it was a further three months before the problem was resolved.
Maris Interiors Chairman, Michael Howard said, "We're delighted to say that none of these stories come from our Clients! There are a huge number of potential pitfalls when relocating offices - often as a result of cutting corners. To guarantee a smooth move we would of course recommend Maris!"
