"We are delighted to win such a prestigious award for this important capability development and the contribution it makes to improving airport efficiency," said Charles Houseago, managing director of Northrop Grumman's airport systems group. "This comes at a very exciting time for us as the product offering is now enhanced to include a new ARC Passenger Flow Module and an analytical element to help create an accurate view of how airport operations are performing."
ARC is designed to provide the airport community with more accurate and timely information for enhanced decision making and improved coordination of airport operations. The ARC technology uses existing infrastructure to deliver a common situational awareness picture through web-based geographical and tabular views of the airfield operations. ARC's processes, and suite of complementary professional services delivered by experienced airport practitioners, can be optimised to combine industry best practices with local airport needs.
ARC software provides data sharing and through accurate taxi time calculation, enables optimum departure sequencing. The ARC software is intelligent in the complexity of the tasks it performs, belied by the simplicity of its appearance. The calculation of the taxi times takes into account aircraft type, airfield layout, operating conditions and a host of other parameters to ensure a departure sequence which maximises flow and minimises delay.
The truly innovative element of ARC is that the combination of software and the expertise of the ARC professional services team can provide the complete Airport Collaborative Decision Making solution to airports. Many suppliers offer information technology systems to support data sharing and collaboration, but the expert support and intelligence behind Northrop Grumman's ARC sets it apart.
ATC Global awards are presented each year to highlight contributions made toward safer skies, capacity enhancements and increases in efficiency within the airspace management industry. The winners are selected by a panel of senior representatives from the Federal Aviation Administration, Eurocontrol, International Air Transport Association, Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation and Jane's Information Group.
