Peter Oswald of Mondi Named RISI's 2013 European CEO of the Year

BRUSSELS, Feb. 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- RISI, the leading information provider for the global forest products industry, has named Mr. Peter J Oswald, Chief Executive Officer of Mondi Europe & International, as the 2013 European CEO of the Year. The award will be presented to Mr. Oswald during RISI's European Pulp & Paper Conference. The conference will be in Vienna, Austria, April 22-24, 2013.

In addition to collecting his award at the RISI European Conference, Mr. Oswald will join the CEO panel and present the keynote speech.

Mr. Oswald was nominated by a group of investment analysts and portfolio managers covering the European pulp and paper industry. The criteria for nomination included leadership, vision and strategic accomplishment.

Mr. Oswald was selected as the winner due to his significant achievements and overall leadership of Mondi Europe & International. Regarding Mr. Oswald's leadership, one nominator commented "The European operation has been consistently well led and has included some significant and bold diversification which it has been getting just right."

Mr. Oswald holds a master of business from the WU-Vienna Business School and a master of law from the University of Vienna. Before joining Mondi, he began his career with Deutsche Bank and automotive company KTM. In 1992, he joined the Mondi Group as the head of internal audit of the subsidiary Frantschach and later became corporate controller. After serving as chief executive of the bag and flexibles business from 1995 to 2001, overseeing its recovery and expansion, Peter was appointed chief executive of Mondi Packaging Europe in UK in 2002, leading its subsequent integration with Frantschach into the new Mondi packaging division in 2004.

At the beginning of 2008 Peter joined the Mondi Board as chief executive officer of the Group's Europe & International Division, comprising all the former Mondi Packaging and Mondi Business Paper operations outside South Africa. Peter serves as a non-executive director of Telekom Austria AG. He is Chairman of the Energy Committee of the Austrian Industry Association, Vice President of the Vienna Industry Association and President of respACT-austrian business council for sustainable development. He is member of the executive committee and board of CEPI.
