Peter Sun: smart cities, dedicated to the digital economy
JINAN, China, Oct. 29, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- In mid-October, the first International Summit on Smart City Development themed "smart makes the city better" was held in Jinan, the capital of Shandong province in Eastern China. Peter Sun, Chairman and CEO of Inspur Group, was invited to give a keynote speech at the Summit, during which he elaborated on new technologies, new models and new ideas for the construction of new smart cities.
Mr. Sun said, the deep application of cloud computing, big data, artificial intelligence, blockchain and other new-generation information technologies, as well as the endless emergence and rapid convergence of new technologies, are making the construction of smart cities a reality. The logistics brain, administrative brain and perceptual brain will be the three key components of the "brain" in building a smart city. To properly and efficiently undertake the construction, management and operation of a smart city and build its "brain", we need "one cloud, one set of data, one portal and one operator" in order to establish and maintain effective control.
Peter Sun further explained the last point: the "one cloud" refers to cloud computing. One of the factors leading ongoing rapid change in the world today is the constant improvement in computational power. "One set of data" is the management of government data. In the era of the digital economy, data has become a new "means of production", a "soil" for breeding new industries, a new economy and new forms of enterprise, while open sharing of data and deep integration of applications is the key to achieving excellence when it comes to management of all government-related functions, social benefits and business development. "One portal" refers to the new portal of a smart city. For many years, much effort has been made in the development of models for the storage of and access to government information, but those who would stand to benefit - the people - do not feel they are reaping the rewards as the various service applications remain siloed and scattered. As a result of this state of affairs, in all future urban development, every city needs a 24/7 smart city public service platform integrating all manner of smart application scenarios that would serve as the city portal. "One operator" refers to a smart city operator. City managers can change at any time, but smart cities need stable and sustainable development, so the development and growth of smart cities need infrastructure operators who can achieve sustainable operation.
Mr. Sun concluded the speech by saying that in the new "IT" era, in this case meaning "intelligence technology", Inspur Group put forward the idea of transforming from a leading cloud computing and big data service provider to a new "cloud + digital" Internet enterprise that can construct a new link between data and the main body of the market, drive the new ecology surrounding a digital industry system and create a new smart city operator.
