PharmaAfrica Partners With UNIDO to Organise 2nd AFRICA PHARMACEUTICAL SUMMIT and Launch PHARMATECH AFRICA
LONDON, July 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
- Second edition of Summit takes place alongside 1st PHARMATECH AFRICA Exhibition in Accra, Ghana, Sept. 10-12, 2014.
PharmaAfrica is pleased to announce their new partnership with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), a specialized agency of the United Nations that promotes industrial development, in producing the 2nd AFRICA PHARMACEUTICAL SUMMIT (APS), a conference that brings together executives from pharmaceutical industry, government and quasi-government officials, investors and other key stakeholders involved in the policy, regulation and processes surrounding pharmaceutical sector development.
The 2nd AFRICA PHARMACEUTICAL SUMMIT will be held September 10 - 11, 2014, at The Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra, Ghana. The Summit, whose first edition was in Tunisia in September 2013, typically attracts attendees from business, public sector and government from countries throughout Africa and beyond.
The Summit will be held in conjunction with, and alongside, the 1st PHARMATECH AFRICA Exhibition, a 100% pharma focused exhibition on pharmaceutical products, formulation, raw materials, active ingredients, processing machinery, packaging machinery and equipment, showcasing the industry's latest technological advances.
"Collaboration plays a big role in furthering the agenda on pharmaceutical sector development in Africa, so it gives me great pleasure to welcome UNIDO to our impressive collection of supporters as headline partner for the 2014 events." says PharmaAfrica Managing Director, Miles Mudzviti.
"It is through the on-going support of our partners that we can continue to drive the dialogue and give stakeholders the opportunity to meet and exchange. This partnership will be a crucial contribution to the growth and establishment of AFRICA PHARMACEUTICAL SUMMIT and PHARMATECH AFRICA as the landmark events in the African pharmaceutical industry," adds Mudzviti.
"UNIDO supports the AFRICA PHARMACEUTICAL SUMMIT as the event tables the right issues for the private and public sector to engage on, for the pharmaceutical industry's development.
This year's special topic "Strategies in Partnering and Investment" makes it a valuable opportunity to forge partnerships be it private-private or public-private to enhance the African pharmaceutical manufacturing capabilities. Combined with PHARMATECH AFRICA, it is a great opportunity to network," says Juergen Reinhardt, Project Manager at UNIDO.
According to the latest African Economic Outlook report, in 2013, Africa maintained an average growth rate of about 4%. This compares to 3% for the global economy and underscores again the continent's resilience to global and regional headwinds.
Growth in sub-Saharan Africa was 5% in 2013 and is projected to be 5.8% in 2014. Excluding South Africa, the figures are 6.1% and 6.8%, respectively. East and West Africa recorded the fastest growth in 2013, 6% or above. Africa's medium-term growth prospects look good with average growth projected to accelerate to close to 5% in 2014 and 5%-6% in 2015, thus to levels last seen before the onset of the 2009 global recession.
"The development of the pharmaceutical industry is high on many African countries' agenda. PHARMATECH AFRICA will provide leaders in pharmaceutical industry with product innovations, equipment and services, all in one place, with the aim to elevate the standard of pharmaceutical industry," adds Mudzviti.
PHARMATECH AFRICA is organized in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Ghana Ministry of Trade and Industry and endorsed by the Ghana Ministry of Health.
Registration for APS 2014 is open online and registrants can take advantage of early discounted rates until 31st July 2014.
