LG receives innovation awards, Lantronix launches iOS print system and Equitable Life goes mobile
Electronics giant LG has been greatly honoured at the recent 2013 International CES Innovations Awards this week, after being awarded no less than 10 prizes across a number of highly contested categories. Most significantly, the company was given the accolade for creating the television industry's best video display for its mammoth 84in Ultra High Definition LED TV, a product that boasts more than 8 million pixels, making it capable of handling the much-awaited "4K" content before it is even on the market.
LG also received the award for best wireless handset, beating off tough competition from the likes of Samsung and HTC to claim the prize for the LG Optimus G. Speaking after the prestigious event, LG CEO Wayne Park expressed his delight at the company's performance, adding that "innovation and design are the foundation of our company."
Lantronix, a global leader in M2M communication services, has announced the launch of its new xPrintServer software, delivering powerful printer connectivity capabilities to offices equipped with a whole range of iOS devices, including iPads and iPods.
The new software will give office staff the ability to connect with virtually any printer on their network, making it easier for professionals using their own or company issued Apple mobile devices to print their work without first transferring it to a desktop machine. The real beauty of the software is the lack of need for a separate application for iOS devices, with software automatically allowing an iPad to connect to an office printer with ease. According to a senior analyst with Lantronix, the software "boasts the same simplicity as its predecessor, whilst providing more robust enterprise features for IT managers."
Equitable Life has embraced the mobile world this week, after releasing a new smartphone application for its Canadian customers, allowing them to make claims on their health and dental plans from the palm of their hand.
The EZClaim app will be available for iOS and BlackBerry users, with Equitable Life amongst the first companies in the world to utilise this new claims platform. Allowing customers to make a claim using their mobile was seen as a natural progression by the company's management team, who recognised the growing uptake of smart devices and reacted by attempting to "provide as many claims submissions options as there is demand for."
