Elbit awarded Boeing contract, Egg-on-Egg launches new range of apps and US Army selects thermal supplier
Elbit Systems America, the US subsidiary of global defence electronics firm Elbit Systems, has been awarded a lucrative $17.5million contract by aviation experts Boeing, with a view to upgrading the mission processors of its popular Apache helicopter range.
The upgrades are set to make the Apache one of the most advanced military helicopters on the market, with additional processing power, cutting edge graphics and enhanced video capture and analysis equipment to increase the effectiveness of surveillance missions. In addition, the new system will enable Boeing to accommodate future technologies as soon as they become mission ready, with the system's ability to interact with additional electronics, sensors and applications without the need for major structural work.
Egg-on-Egg Corporation, an innovative Japanese tech start-up, has announced the launch of its new suite of Android based apps, designed to improve consumers' experience of Google's existing range of essential applications.
The company's new suite consists of three core applications, starting with "Synchronicity", which aims to greatly enhance and integrate Google's Gmail and Contacts apps. Users will be able to edit, backup and import contacts across their Android devices, and there will also be significant improvements to icon management.
"Calendar G", on the other hand, aims to mimic Apple's popular "Reminders" app, with the added benefit of SMS or email alerts for upcoming events, depending on the user's preference. Finally, "Stock It" looks to make the most of bookmarking by giving users the option to share their favourite content with friends or simply save it for their own viewing later.
Raytheon, a multinational defence company, has been selected as the US Army's preferred supplier of "Thermal Weapon Sights", a product that is designed to giver soldiers enhanced viewing capabilities in the field.
The contract is said to be worth in excess of $100million over the next three years, in which time the company will deliver up to 24,000 sights to the US army, in what has been described as a cost-effective manner. Raytheon is a market leader in advanced, military grade viewing technology, having been the sole provider to the US military for the last 12 years.
Speaking after the announcement, Raytheon vice president Jeff Miller enthused over the opportunity to put "rugged lightweight thermal imaging technology in soldier's hands", giving them the ability to "operate effectively day or night".
