Océ launches new products and landmark educational partnership, whilst Google purchases Viewdle

Océ, an expert provider of commercial document management solutions and printing systems - and a subsidiary of printing giant Canon - has launched the new JetStream 5500 inkjet printing model, as part of a string of announcements made by the company over the weekend.

The new device is set to revolutionise the self-publishing and newspaper printing markets, by providing publishers with a combination of high quality and high speed printing capability.

The JetStream 5500 will produce 5450 letters per minute at a resolution of 600x400 dpi, making it the perfect solution for everything from books to manuals. The company has also paid special attention to the inner mechanics of its new product, ensuring that the latest self-service technology has been used to provide customers with an easy-to-use and low maintenance commercial printer.

Océ has also announced a strategic partnership with the charitable "Junior Achievement South Florida" (JASF) organisation, which will see children across the state gain access to a state of the art business experience.

JASF provides educational experiences for young children who are assigned specific roles within "JA BizTowns", after which they are presented with a wage for their hard day's work. Océ has pledged the use of its VarioPrint Ultra Series printer range in order to produce the paycheques on an industrial scale, allowing more children to participate in the life-changing scheme.

The company has also donated a number of printing devices to allow children assigned roles within a fake newspaper to make high quality prints of the material they produce, enhancing the experience and giving them a product to sell to other participants.

Google, the world's biggest provider of search engine and mobile operating system services, has announced the takeover of Ukrainian tech firm Viewdle, paving the way for a number of significant enhancements to its existing photo sharing and Android products.

Google has reportedly paid up to $40million for the company, which produces facial recognition and automated photo tagging technologies. News of the takeover sparked excitement amongst Google fans, who envisage the use of this technology in the upcoming Google Glass augmented reality device.

Analysts have tipped the sale as the start of a boom in the Ukrainian digital technology sector, with its record high number of IT graduates contributing to a sector that is now worth more than $1billion to the country's economy.
