Prescient South Sudan Documentary ten minutes is two hours, from Walking to the Moon Productions, screens as Official Selection of San Diego Black Film Festival

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Walking to the Moon Productions/Trek for Peace short-form documentary on South Sudan, ten minutes is two hours, an official selection of numerous international film festivals in 2013, will next be screening as part of the San Diego Black Film Festival (SBFF) on Saturday, February 1. SBFF was established in 2002 to preserve and promote African American & African Diaspora Cinema. Held each year in late January, SBFF has grown to be one of the largest black film festivals in the country.

It is a self-consciously "cinematic" recreation of a journey through a land plagued by the ghosts of colonialism and the present anxiety of conflicting religious and political agendas – both of which can often seem one and the same. Evoking a surreal sense of place, both very present and very distant, the video depicts the hazy lines between notions of "foreign aid" "missionary practice" and "colonialism," and shows the ways history has of recycling itself."

In constructing the video, Kennelly was inspired by the politically charged silent-era montage of Aleksandr Dovzhenko, Dziga Vertov, and Sergei Eisenstein and the later impressionistic film and video works of Chris Marker and Jean-Luc Godard.

The NCP is headed by Sudan's president and accused war criminal, Omar al-Bashir. Dawod was arrested in July 2012 by Sudan's National Intelligence and Security Service for participating in a peaceful anti-regime demonstration in Khartoum. Accused of terrorist activities by Sudan's government, Dawod endured 45 days of detainment, beatings, and torture. Since being released, he has quickly become the face of Sudan's non-violent revolution.
