Press Release Following the 4th Astana Economic Forum 3rd - 4th May 2011
ALMATY, Kazakhstan, May 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- On May 3-4, 2011, the 4th Astana Economic Forum was held at the Palace of Independence on the Left Bank of Astana City. The forum was opened by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev.
There are the most pressing items of global development on the agenda of the forum: prospects of reforming the international monetary system, food security and alternative energy, communication between the government and the private sector, development of tourism and regional integration.
The President of Kazakhstan believes that the World needs a new reserve currency.
Mr. Nursultan Nazarbayev stated the need for unprecedented actions to be taken on the foreign exchange market. Accordingly, Mr. Nazarbayev suggested the attendees of the forum making a road map and giving the respective recommendations, which would be presented at the next meeting 23rd May 2012.
Astana Economic Forum was attended by prominent scientists, economists and politicians. They include the Nobel laureates:
Sir James Alexander Mirrlees, Robert Alexander Mundell, John Forbes Nash, Yisrael Robert John Aumann, Finn Erling Kydland and Roger David Kornberg.
Also, Taleb Rifai, Secretary-General of the UN World Tourism Organization; Jan Kubis, the UN Deputy Secretary-General, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific ("UNESCAP"), former Secretary-General of the OSCE; Jorge Quiroga, ex-President of Bolivia, member of Madrid Club; Jacques Diouf, Director-General of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization ("UNFAO"), and Thierry Mariani, the French State Secretary of Transport.
By tradition, the forum was wrapped up by an Open Letter to the leaders of the G20 member states. It gave recommendations on how to rehabilitate and develop the global economy.
On May 4 2011, ,as part of Astana Economic Forum an investment forum was held. It was attended by Karim Massimov, the Kazakh Prime Minister.
Besides, as part of the 4th Astana Economic Forum the 6th Innovation Congress on Integration of National Innovating Systems was also held.
The 6th Innovation Congress of Astana Economic Forum was wrapped up by signing several significant memorandums and agreements between institutions that took part in the congress.
Also, a statement about the establishment of ASTANA CLUB OF NOBEL LAUREATES was made at the 4th Astana Economic Forum. It comprises 7 laureates chiefly economists.
