ProLabs Hires Top Optical Design Engineer Giacomo Losio, Formerly at Cisco
CIRENCESTER, England and MINNEAPOLIS, July 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
Optical network infrastructure and connectivity company extends team of world-class talent as it readies for growth
ProLabs, the leading independent provider of global optical network infrastructure products, announced today that Giacomo Losio has been appointed head of technology to the company. Losio joins ProLabs from Cisco Systems, where he most recently held the position of lead optical design engineer for the Transceiver Module Group. In his new role, Losio will lead efforts to develop the company's technology road map and strategy while supporting the company's overarching objective to dominate the rapidly expanding market for compatible optical technologies. Losio will be based in Cirencester reporting to Stephen Burke, vice president, EMEA.
This news follows other recent key appointments at ProLabs, including Ward Williams, Chief Commercial Officer, and Stephen Burke, Vice President of EMEA Sales, both from TE Connectivity, as well as Stephen Crick, UK Account Manager, from Teneo.
"This is a major win for ProLabs," said Nick Moglia, CEO of ProLabs. "Our ability to attract and recruit world-class talent, such as Giacomo, is a testament to the value proposition and clear differentiation in quality, service and support that ProLabs is bringing to the optical supplier market. We are pleased to welcome him to the team as we redefine the marketplace."
Losio has more than 14 years of experience in optical transport systems design and eight years of experience in project and program management. At Cisco, he played a key role in developing the key building blocks of Cisco's optical solutions such as DWDM XFP, Tunable XFP, MLSE 10Gbit/s transponder, coherent 40G PM-DQPSK. Losio covered the product lifecycle, from feature definition to field support, and progressively expanded his role from designer to project leader. Losio has seven international patents; five of which are filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
According to Wintergreen Research, the global optical transceiver market will grow to $6.7 billion by 2019, driven by the availability of 100 Gbps devices and vast increases in Internet data traffic. Simultaneously, customers are seeking cost-efficient, high-quality alternatives to OEM products for high-speed network infrastructure build-outs.
Moglia continues, "We've been deliberate about our strategy - recruiting top talent, and partnering with suppliers innovative technology, and anticipating market growth and demand. We will share further developments in the next several months as we pursue our goal of becoming the biggest and best global, independent supplier of optical network products."
