MANCHESTER, England, February 8, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
The odds on Harry Redknapp becoming the next permanent England manager have been slashed into 4/11 with Betfred following the decision of Fabio Capello to resign from his position with the England national team.
Next in the betting is Stuart Pearce at 7/1 who is the current England Under 21 boss and will this summer lead the Great Britain football team at the Olympics.
Current Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho is the joint third favourite at 10/1. The former Chelsea manager has expressed an interest in returning to England in the future, whilst former Stamford Bridge caretaker boss Guus Hiddink is also 10/1.
Betfred boss Fred Done was not surprised to hear the news about Capello's resignation on Wednesday evening.
"His position had become untenable with the FA following the interview he gave to Italian TV," he said. "It appears punters want Harry Redknapp to lead the 3 Lions this summer. As soon as Harry was cleared of tax evasion there was support for the Spurs boss, but tonight the money has only increased with Capello's resignation."
