Quintiq Partners with JBS USA to Optimize Protein Processing
RADNOR, Pennsylvania, April 15, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
Quintiq, a global leader in supply chain planning and optimization (SCP&O), announced today that JBS, the world's leading processor of animal protein, has completed implementation of the Quintiq optimization platform at 13 processing facilities in the United States.
The disassembly of livestock is a complicated process that requires respect for the animal and a responsibility to maximize the value of dozens of individual products for specific customers. Aligning specific customer orders with product availability can be a challenging process given the complexity of factors that must be considered. Conversions, grades, product age and other quality factors must be accurately determined on a real-time basis to meet customer demand. The Quintiq platform aligns production and scheduling plans to provide insight into product availability, allowing sales team members to quickly address customer questions regarding order processing time.
"We elected to partner with Quintiq due to their deep commitment to understand the inherent complexities of our protein processing business," said Eric Wallin, SVP and head of beef finance and business analysis at JBS USA. "Throughout the course of the project, they repeatedly demonstrated that, no matter how complicated the issue, they were committed to identifying a solution and delivering results."
Implementation of the Quintiq planning platform provides JBS USA the capability to minimize less-efficient manual planning processes and realign business processes and departments to improve performance and enhance customer service. The new platform allows JBS team members to maintain complete control over the planning and scheduling process and ensure all available materials are optimized at their maximal value.
"JBS provided us with a highly complex puzzle that required special expertise," commented Victor Allis, CEO of Quintiq. "Throughout the project we examined the many intricate details that make up beef and pork production and were able to apply our 100%-fit platform to the production process. We have vast experience in the food manufacturing space and are looking forward to extending our partnership with JBS to continue to add value to their business and the business of their customers."
