Rael names Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg 'Honorary Guide of Humanity'
LAS VEGAS, Dec. 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- "I decided to award the title of Honorary Guide of Humanity to [Facebook CEO] Mark Zuckerberg after he decided to give 99 percent of his Facebook shares to good causes, thereby creating a better world for his newborn girl," said Rael, spiritual leader of the International Raelian Movement (IRM), in a statement released today by the IRM.
Zuckerberg, 31, is married to Priscilla Chan. He announced the decision to give away most of his enormous fortune in a letter posted on his Facebook page that he wrote to his infant daughter, Max. Consequently, approximately $45 billion will be distributed through the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative "to advance human potential and promote equality for all children in the next generation." Zuckerberg also stressed how technology can be used to maximize human potential, saying many opportunities for his daughter's generation will emerge from universal Internet access.
"Zuckerberg joins the list of more than 80 Honorary Guides for Humanity," said Brigitte Boisselier, PhD, spokesperson of the Raelian Movement. "That list includes Warren Buffett and Bill Gates, both of whom were nominated as Honorary Guides for making similar pledges a few years ago."
At the time he awarded Buffett the Honorary Guide distinction, Rael said, "Honorary guides like Warren Buffett and Bill Gates are the real saints of this modern age. We cannot build a better world with prayers or with weapons, but we can do it by giving love, and their acts are real acts of love." And he added, "To learn about their generosity gives me hope for humanity."
