Rael supports Amnesty International's effort to decriminalize prostitution

LAS VEGAS, Aug. 8, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Hollywood stars Meryl Streep and Emma Thompson have teamed up with a group of former sex workers to oppose an Amnesty International proposal that would decriminalize prostitution and recognize it as a human right. If enacted, the "Draft Policy on Sex Work" would permit all consensual sexual acts between adults except those involving coercion, deception, threats or violence.

At least one international spiritual leader says he strongly supports the human rights organization's controversial proposal.

"Amnesty International is absolutely right [in seeking to decriminalize prostitution and recognize it as a human right]!" declared Maitreya Rael, founder and spiritual head of the International Raelian Movement (IRM), in a statement released today by the IRM.

"Sexuality between consenting adults, whether it involves money or not, is not the business of any government or other authority," he explained. "People must have the right to do whatever they want with their bodies, whether it's to prostitute their brains like all intellectuals and politicians, prostitute their hands like any manual worker, or prostitute their sexual organs. Making a distinction between sexual parts of the body and other parts of the body is connected to the Judeo-Christian prejudices of those who condemn them."
