Raytheon apprentice wins UK Institute of the Motor Industry Outstanding Achievers Award
LONDON, Aug. 9, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Professional Services LLC (RPS), a subsidiary of Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN), announced that Michael Ross, a graduate of the automotive apprenticeship programme run by RPS for Vauxhall Motors, was recognized for his outstanding achievements in the IMI Awards, the UK Institute of the Motor Industry's annual competition.
Already the winner of Vauxhall's Apprentice of the Year Award in 2011, Ross won the most fiercely contested category in the 2012 IMI Awards: the Outstanding Technical Student - Light Vehicle category.
"We are proud that Raytheon's apprenticeship programme helps create this level of skilled automotive professionals," said David Marriott, RPS UK apprenticeship programme director. "Outstanding individuals like Michael Ross, whom we congratulate, are essential to maintaining high quality automotive services in the UK."
A car enthusiast from an early age, Ross joined the Vauxhall apprenticeship programme in 2006. It did not take long for tutors at the training centre that RPS operates for Vauxhall in Glasgow to note his professionalism and commitment to his training.
"Michael has always had a hunger to learn and has set standards for others on the programme with the levels of work he completed, whether in the classroom or the workshop," said RPS programme manager Andrew Wilkie, who nominated him for the IMI Award.
After completing the apprenticeship programme and achieving Service Technician Silver status, Ross will continue developing his technical expertise by working toward Gold status.
