RealNetworks Expands European Presence With New Mobile Development Offices In Croatia
SEATTLE, April 15, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- RealNetworks, Inc. (NASDAQ: RNWK) today announced the opening of a corporate office in Zagreb, the capital and largest city in Croatia, and nearby Osijek. With the addition of these new offices, RealNetworks now has 10 locations in Europe; other offices are in Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal, Austria, Luxembourg, France, and the United Kingdom.
The Croatia team has been working on RealPlayer Cloud from the early stages and provides support for upgrades and platform integrations, including an app introduced on April 2 for Amazon Fire TV. RealPlayer Cloud, which already has more than 1 million active customer accounts in just 6 months of release, allows users worldwide to store their video collections in the cloud, making them accessible on many devices.
"We welcome this talented team to the Real family," said Rob Glaser, chairman and interim CEO of RealNetworks. "Croatia offers a pool of young, driven mobile developers, who quickly become experienced and are forging new paths in the mobile space. Opening an office there completely aligns with our strategic focus on mobile innovation."
RealNetworks acquired the team from Five Minutes, a Zagreb-based company with expertise in developing mobile applications.
"Real has been working with Five Minutes for years as a valued partner in our mobile development efforts," said Jeff Chasen, vice president of product and software development at RealNetworks. "This was a talent acquisition that lays the foundation for Real to create a robust mobile development team in Croatia. In fact, we are recruiting at this very moment and hope to rapidly expand. In addition to hiring skilled mobile developers, we are on the lookout for great engineers with experience in HTML5 and Javascript."
The new, modern offices in Croatia are located near the city centers. In addition to offices in Europe, RealNetworks has locations in Brazil, India, Indonesia, the Philippines, Korea, Japan, British Columbia, and the United States.
The RealPlayer Cloud app allows customers to privately share videos with friends and family - even if their loved ones don't have the RealPlayer Cloud app. Through its revolutionary SurePlay™ technology, RealPlayer Cloud ensures videos watched through the app are automatically formatted to give viewers the highest quality experience possible. Customers can use RealPlayer Cloud on iPhone, iPad, Android, Kindle Fire, Windows 8 Modern UI, Windows, Fire TV, Roku and Chromecast, and other devices via a Web browser.
The RealPlayer Cloud app is available as a free download and comes with 2 gigabytes of cloud storage for free to all users worldwide. RealPlayer Cloud also offers additional storage via subscription plans that start at $4.99 per month.
In addition to English, the app is now available in French, German and Spanish. Versions in Italian, Japanese, Korean and Portuguese are coming soon. For more information on RealPlayer Cloud, please visit Real.com.
