Recent Robberies Of Watches Highlights Demand For Stealing Sentimental Items
PORTADOWN, Northern Ireland, May 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
In an early morning assault in a quiet village in Northampton, two young men had their watches stolen as they got out of a taxi. The crime has highlighted how thieves still regard watches to be a lucrative object to steal and has caused jewellers across the country, such as Nigel O' Hara to be on alert.
According to a report in the Northampton Chronicle, two men were assaulted by two offenders when they were getting out of a taxi in the normally quiet village of Great Doddington, Northamptonshire, at 4.30 in the morning. The men were returning home following a night out in Northampton. Talking to the Northampton Chronicle, Bharti Shah, from the Village Stores close to where the attack took place, said:
"I knew there was a disturbance and a neighbour shouted out to see if everyone was alright. They didn't come out, but this may have stopped it escalating.
"It is not something you expect in the village. As a rule it's not too bad as it's not a big village. It's a shock to the system."
As well as having an obvious monetary value, watches, alongside wedding rings, engagement rings and other pieces of jewellery, are among the most sentimental personal belongings people own. When therefore a watch is stolen, the victim can inevitably be plunged into emotional turmoil
The cowardly act of stealing valuable items with large sentimental values has been by no means confined to Northamptonshire this year. In February 2013, a woman in Asfordby, Leicestershire, made an emotional plea to have her late parent's items returned to her after they were stolen by burglars.
The burglars took a gold wedding band and a watch, which had the words 'Derek Green, 40 years of service at Holwell Works' engraved on the back. Another watch was also stolen in the robbery, which belonged to the victim's late grandfather. According to a report in the Melton Times, the sentimental item was a Swiss-made Rone watch, which has a gold metal strap, a cream face and a gold trim.
With robberies of watches and rings appearing to be as lucrative as ever, Nigel O' Hara is certainly right to be on its guard.
Nigel O' Hara Diamond Jewellers was established in 1985 and is firmly established as offering a wide variety of designer watches, jewellery and other luxury gifts.
