Early adopter among the market research industry
DALLAS, March 2, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Research Now, the global leader in digital research data for better insights and business decisions, was awarded the EU-US Privacy Shield Certification by the US Department of Commerce. The certification applies to the European Union, United States, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway, and replaces the Safe Harbor Agreement, with which Research Now was already compliant.
This new data protection framework is administered by the International Trade Administration (ITA) within the US Department of Commerce, and meets the new criteria established by the European Commission on July 12, 2016 to better safeguard the transfer of personal data and information between the EU and US. Particularly, the framework contains guiding principles and enforceable controls that require participating companies to provide transparency on their collection, use, and processing of personal data.
"Research Now is known for our industry-leading processes, procedures, and continued innovation, and we are committed to upholding the highest data privacy standards around the world in order to ensure full protection for both our panellists' and clients' data," said Florent Tual, Director of Data Privacy for Research Now. "This certification establishes our legal compliance with EU data protection requirements and demonstrates our continued commitment to remain the global leader in online digital data collection."
The Privacy Shield framework also requires strong oversight from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Department of Transportation, and mandates increased cooperation with EU Data Protection Authorities (DPAs). Upon certification, US-based companies can provide with legal certainty both a reliable means of personal data transfer and an adequate level of protection for EU citizens' personal data.
An early adopter of the Privacy Shield among the market research industry, Research Now is committed to additional best practices, as evidenced by added data privacy constructs such as model clauses to cover data transfers between the EU and the US, registration with the DPA wherever legally required, and the use of a third-party privacy monitor, TRUSTe, since 2009.
