Rijkswaterstaat Has Selected Ballast Nedam for the N31 Traverse Harlingen Project

The Netherlands' Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management (in Dutch: Rijkswaterstaat) has announced its intention to appoint Ballast Nedam as the selected bidder for the N31 Traverse Harlingen project in the Netherlands.

The design and construct project involves the widening of an approx. 3 km stretch of the N31 at Harlingen, from a single carriageway to a dual carriageway. About 2 km of the route will pass through a sunken construction, to conceal this line bisecting the town of Harlingen.

An aqueduct will be built where the Van Harinxmakanaal intersects the N31. Five new viaducts will be built across the sunken construction, for the railway line and the underlying road network.

The total value of the contract is approximately € 84 million. Rijkswaterstaat expects to make the final award on 16 September, at which time the Alcatel Period will have expired.
