Royal Couple Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Enjoy Jungle Experience in Borneo, Reports Freedom Asia
HERTFORD, England, September 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
Malaysia's rainforest on the island of Borneo has been put on the tourist map thanks to Prince William and Kate Middleton
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge enjoyed a day in the Borneo rainforest as part of their nine-day tour of South East Asia, report Freedom Asia - the leading Asia holiday travel company. Spending time at the Rainforest Research Centre in Danum Valley, Sabah, and suspended 40 metres above the forest floor amongst the tree canopy, the Duke and Duchess are said to have been thrilled and amazed by the experience. The royal couple were especially interested in the conservation efforts of the forest and its wildlife, particularly its world-famous orang-utans and proboscis monkeys.
The visit is expected to boost tourism in Borneo, home to thousands of acres of pristine, virgin rainforest filled with unique flora and fauna. Tourism numbers are already increasing to the Malaysian island, which is split into two states, Sabah and Sarawak. Tourist numbers in 2011 were up by almost a million on 2010 figures according to the Malaysian tourist board.
Holidays Borneo bound are becoming more popular. As adventure and conservation tourism really takes off en masse, destinations with rare wildlife, indigenous communities and untouched landscapes are proving to be most popular and Borneo offers the full package. There are pristine beaches but there are tropical rainforests too. There are mountains shrouded in clouds and plunging waterfalls. There are cities, towns and villages and mile upon mile of remote rainforest. In short, it has it all.
Holidays in Malaysia in general are becoming more fashionable. The country is one of the most developed in South East Asia offering luxury hotels and fantastic transport connections to the entire region. However, it hasn't lost its original appeal and has preserved its culture and landscape through government backed conservation initiatives.
Intrepid travellers will find adventure, but beach lubbers will be equally as satisfied. Flight prices are being slashed all the time making the region ever more affordable.
