A large gamble was landed when the Queen chose to wear a yellow hat after it had been backed into 8/15 from 12/1 a week ago.
The pain got worse as Kate's dress was officially described as the colour Ivory, which was also the 8/15 favourite, and finally Kate's arrival at 11.02am resulted in Betfred also paying out. 11 o'clock to five past had been well supported all week.
Betfred boss Fred Done commented,
"Having daughters weddings have always been costly but today was a disaster. Royal punters are celebrating with a King's ransom but of course I wish the couple the very best for the future."
Betfred's betting shop at the World Snooker Championships at the Crucible in Sheffield reverted from showing its usual mix of snooker, greyhounds and horse-racing to show the Royal Wedding after requests from customers. Of course Betfred were betting in play on the event.
