Commenting on this overall project, Christian Purrer, CEO of Energie Steiermark: "Up to 150 million euros from this project goes directly to the Styrian economy, whilst the 3-year installation phase nationwide more than 200 jobs are secured. Also the "inner parts" of the smart meter has been developed in our state. The Sales in the coming years will be developing new products and tariffs for interested customers in order to offer more flexible options and as well to use jointly better alternative feedings possibilities. With the smart meters we go into a new area, it is not determined by suppliers and purchasers, but of a fair energy partnership. The previous test has been pleasing customers very positively about the new possibilities; we take security issues very seriously and in any case have therefore opted for the most advanced technology in this field."
Further Mr. Martin GRAF, Executive Director of Energie Steiermark states: "The cooperation of Energie Steiermark with regional utilities in terms of smart meters is a clear commitment to work together in order to implement the challenges of the new energy world together for Styria efficiently. A project of this magnitude requires a finely coordinated interaction. Although ostensibly the implementation stems from a legal requirement, we intend to use the dialogue and efficiency potential of the new meter together with our customers very intensely - in this context we will also work closely with AK and other Austrian consumer protection organizations. The examples from other federal states show that acceptance is enormous amongst customers, new transparency and self-control ensures a new energy-understanding."
Commenting on this award, Eric RIEUL, Deputy CEO of Sagemcom Energy & Telecom SAS, said: "With this second success in Austria, Sagemcom confirms the recognition of its expertise on the latest smart metering solutions as well as its capability to carry out dimensioning projects. Sagemcom is very proud to be a long term technology partner to Austrian power grid operators of Styria to support their goal of deploying smart meters with a view on increasing the ability of the end consumer to control his energy consumption and enhancing grid management capabilities."
