Verdiem, Cisco and Schneider Electric deliver unified energy management across lighting, HVAC, and ICT infrastructures
Verdiem, a leader in IT energy and efficiency software, today announced that a joint Verdiem/Schneider Electric/Cisco solution has successfully delivered centralised energy management for the education sector. The unified solution has been implemented in three secondary schools in Lisbon, Portugal to control and monitor energy consumption from all new equipment installed - from air conditioning and lighting to ICT devices. The pilot deployment has already cut ICT energy use by 25 % - including PCs, IP phones, wireless access points, IP video cameras and network switches.
The solution has been implemented across three schools - comprising ten buildings and serving 3,600 students and staff - by Parque Escolar EPE - the Portuguese Company responsible for modernising Portuguese secondary schools. The initial 25% energy use reduction for ICT will also be complemented by the display and use of real-time energy data as an educational tool at the schools to promote conservation, and is part of the organisation's drive to make every school in the country carbon neutral and energy self-sufficient.
"This joint Verdiem/Schneider Electric /Cisco initiative delivers greater energy efficiency and important cost savings for Portugal's schools. At the same time it fosters 'green' individual behaviours and organisational policies that help increase the momentum for sustainability on a global scale." - Parque Escolar.
Verdiem provides the power management for ICT devices, enabling energy consumption control over approximately 600 PCs, 120 Cisco IP phones, 150 Cisco wireless access points, a video surveillance system with over 75 IP cameras, and 60 Cisco Catalyst switches - with the potential for adding the interactive white boards and projectors in classrooms.
Cisco, Schneider Electric and Verdiem consolidated all relevant sources of energy consumption via a single, unified IP network-based approach, enabling real-time energy monitoring and management. Verdiem's software provides a single pane to monitor, optimise and regulate energy use by all ICT devices and systems across all ten buildings at the three schools. The solution integrates Cisco EnergyWise technology with a Schneider Electric EcoStruxure™ architecture, which includes management of ICT devices, as well as lighting, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.
