Scotland's Businesses Come Together for Glasgow 2014
GLASGOW, Scotland, May 27, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
Around 75 of Scotland's senior business leaders met today at Aggreko's global manufacturing hub in Dumbarton to kick start the company's campaign to build a lasting Commonwealth Games legacy for Glasgow.
The event was attended by Commonwealth Games Organising Committee Chairman, Lord Smith of Kelvin and Team GB Olympic Men's Curling Captain, David Murdoch and saw the FTSE-100 company unveil a specially commissioned artwork generator to celebrate the Games. The generator will become a familiar feature for spectators outside many of the Games' stadia and venues.
Under the banner 'Generating Powerful Partnerships' it is hoped that the Aggreko event will spark new shared opportunities for Scotland's businesses and communities as a result of Glasgow hosting the XX Commonwealth Games.
Angus Cockburn, Interim Chief Executive Officer of Aggreko, said: "We are deeply proud of our roots as a Scottish business with a truly global presence. We now operate in more than 100 countries, but Glasgow remains the centre of that business. Glasgow 2014 will celebrate all that is Scotland, Glasgow and the Commonwealth Games and we are determined that it brings Scottish businesses and communities together."
Lord Smith of Kelvin, Chairman of the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee, added: "Aggreko has a great track record of supporting large events worldwide and the company has been a welcome addition to the Glasgow 2014 sponsor family as our Official Temporary Power Supporter. It's great to have a highly-regarded global power firm with headquarters in the Glasgow area and an impressive manufacturing plant in Dumbarton supporting us as we prepare to welcome the world to the largest multi-sport event Scotland has ever hosted."
Aggreko will supply temporary power as well as temperature control services to 29 competition and non-competition Games venues, including several stadia, the operations centre and athletes village. It will also supply the International Broadcast Centre (IBC) at the SECC, Glasgow.
Editor's Notes
Aggreko plc is the world leader in the supply of temporary power and temperature control solutions. Aggreko employs over 6,000 people operating from 202 locations. In 2013 we served customers in about 100 countries, and had revenues of approximately GBP 1.6bn (USD 2.5bn or Euros 1.9bn). Aggreko plc is listed on the London Stock Exchange (AGK.L), is a member of the FTSE-100 index, and is headquartered in Scotland.
Aggreko provides power and temperature control solutions to customers who need them either very quickly, or for a short or indeterminate length of time. Examples would be the supply of power to an industrial site which needs to service its permanent power supply, supplying a whole city in times of power shortage, or providing a major sporting event with power and cooling systems. We serve our customers either through our 202 service centres, which we call the Local business, or globally through our Power Projects business.
In the Local business, which accounts for about half of our revenues, we hire our equipment to customers, who then operate it for themselves, although we retain responsibility for servicing and maintaining it. In the Power Projects business, which also accounts for about half of our revenues, we operate as a power producer. We install and operate power plants and we charge our customers both for providing the generating capacity, and for the electricity we produce. We design and manufacture equipment specifically for these requirements in our factory in Dumbarton, Scotland.
Recent customers include the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Ryder Cup and Cirque du Soleil and the power utilities in over 50 countries including the UK, France, Ivory Coast, Mozambique, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Argentina, Venezuela, Chile, Brazil and the USA.
In 2013 we fulfilled almost 48,000 customers' assignments and 72% of those who responded to our research gave us a recommendation of 9 or 10 out of 10.
