SDE Receives Approval for a 100MW Power Plant Project From the Ministry of Energy in Kenya
TEL-AVIV, Israel, January 31, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- SDE (http://www.sde-energy.com/) Energy has announced today that the Ministry of Energy in Kenya has granted official approval for the establishment of a 100MW power plant on the Kenyan coastline. The installation of the power plant will be executed in cooperation with local company Sea Wave Gen. SDE has recently signed an agreement in Mexico (http://finance.yahoo.com/news/SDE-Signed-an-Exclusive-prnews-2953639591.html?x=0) for the establishment of a 1MW power plant.
The 100MW power plant will be installed along the shores of Kenya, with a production cost of $0.02 per 1KW, while the produced energy will be bought by the local electric company KPLC (http://www.kplc.co.ke/) with a tariff of $0.08 per 1KW.
Sea wave energy production is an innovative technology with great potential. The waves are created as a result of the winds on the surface of the ocean. Energy production factors include the velocity of the wind as a factor of the wave height; the wind's consistency; the ocean surface area, its depth, and its topography. It is this energy that the technology of SDE is interested in harnessing and using as a green and renewable energy source.
The U.N. Development Program report (UNDP), released at the beginning of November, declared that widespread methods of power production cause tremendous large-scale harm to the environment and contribute to man-made climate change.
The effects of global warming show us the necessity of green renewable energy. The heat waves, floods, and other natural disasters that occur in every continent have created an urgent need for nations to adopt alternative energy production.
SDE's sea wave energy production method is the ideal solution for the severe pollution and electrical shortage in Kenya. The technology enables production of energy in a clean and cost-efficient manner, which will reduce the environmental pollution without damaging the industrial and financial growth in Kenya, which is restricted as a result of the electric shortage.
SDE's sea wave energy production is unique, innovative and cost-efficient. The system is considered as most efficient and offered in a competitive price-the price for construction of a 1MW power plant operated by S.D.E. amounts to $650,000, compared to costs amounting to $1,500,000 for coal, $900,000$ for gas, $3,000,000 for solar energy, and $1,500,000 for wind power. S.D.E. offers a rate of 2Cent per kW, compared to 3Cent for coal, 3.5Cent for gas, 12Cent for solar energy, and 3.6Cent for wind power.
SDE has built several sea power plants. The new sea wave power plant, (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2UaPbnyXzzI) which is actually the 9th plant ( http://intelligentenergyportal.com/article/first-sea-wave-power-plant-jaffa-port-israel-finalizes-construction) built at Jaffa Port by SDE company, has been finalized and operated in the recent days, proving itself as a better and improved version of the previous models. It can produce 60 KWh (with only one buoy), it is a fully automatic model, and only 10% of the whole system is in the waters, which minimizes the risk to the system in cases of storms and other natural disasters.
Energy prices can determine the stability of a reign and the country's development. With the price of an oil barrel exceeding $95 today and its price in steep continuous rise, many electric companies are struggling to stay solvent, and the power plants and citizens of those countries are harmed as a result. However, the syeach ofstem developed by SDE is completely fuel-free and therefore is the most cost-efficient system.
The system developed by S.D.E. has the ability to supply 500 times more power than current worldwide sea wave energy consumption. S.D.E. owns a world patent, as well as a number of other patents in registration process. So far, S.D.E. has built nine power plant models, each of which was financed by the Israeli government.
