Search Demand for Monty Python Tickets Outstrips Interest in I'm a Celebrity…
DUBLIN, Ireland, December 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
- Google searches for Monty Python tickets outnumbered those for the hit ITV reality show by 2 to 1 on day of release
- The plan for a one-off reunion show quickly turned into a run of 10 live dates, after the initial tickets were snapped up in a staggering 44 seconds
- StubHub UK has ticket availability for all Monty Python Live (Almost) dates
The staggering demand for tickets to the long-awaited Monty Python reunion eclipsed even the online buzz around the latest series of I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here, according to Google data highlighted by online ticket marketplace StubHub.
Searches for Monty Python tickets outstripped queries around the ITV reality show favourite by two-to-one on their day of release (25th November), despite the fact that the jungle-based antics of Joey Essex, Amy Willerton and co. were among the biggest UK trends on the search engine during its latest TV run.
As a result of such phenomenal demand for Monty Python Live (Almost) tickets, it's no surprise that the legendary comedy troupe - John Cleese, Michael Palin, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle and Terry Jones - are now scheduled to play ten dates at London's O2 Arena across July 2014.
Further analysis of Google data on 25th November also reveals that the popularity of Monty Python tickets didn't just exceed insect-chomping Z-listers. On their release day, they also soared above searches for 'selfie', the Oxford English Dictionary's Word of the Year. For a comedy group as committed to outlandish wordplay as the Pythons, this is surely a feat to be proud of.
Commenting on the huge demand for the hotly anticipated comedy shows, Head of European Communications at StubHub Fiona Chow remarked: "While reality TV shows keep millions of us glued to our screens, Monty Python occupies a unique place in the affections of the British public. As online excitement around these historic reunion gigs proves, dead parrots and silly walks will always win the day over Bushtucker Trials and celebrity tantrums."
While I'm A Celebrity… concluded with victory for ex-Westlife singer Kian Egan on Sunday (9th December), online demand for Monty Python tickets is still sky-high as anticipation builds towards next summer's shows. Fans can now buy and sell tickets for all 10 dates on online marketplace StubHub.
