Siemens Benchmark Digital Factory Lays the Foundation in Chengdu High Tech Zone
CHENGDU, China, March 16, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
Siemens is starting to build the Siemens Electronics Works Chengdu (SEWC) in Chengdu High Tech zone today. This is the largest modern digital factory of Siemens in China. The completion of first phase and production is targeted by early 2013. Covering 40,000 square meters at West Park of Chengdu High Tech Development Zone. The new factory will create more than 1000 new jobs in Chengdu and Sichuan province. Mayor of Chengdu, Ge Hong Lin, joined Dr. Marc Wucherer, President of Industry China, for laying the foundation of the factory. Wucherer said "Chengdu is of great importance to Siemens' footprint in western China. Siemens will continually support and involve in Chengdu's economic and social development. SEWC is value added to the local economy as well as to Sichuan's industrial upgrade."

Mayor Ge Hong Lin esteemed Siemens' commitment of "Support Go West" to be a win-win situation for both sides. Ge stated: "Siemens' investment is expected to be an important lever of electronic upgrade of Chengdu and Sichuan province. On the other hand, Chengdu would provide favorable condition and high efficient services to support Siemens' development."
On 17th October, 2011, Siemens and Chengdu jointly announced the intention of building Siemens' largest digital factory in China. The factory is built to meet demands from global markets. CEO of Industrial Automation Systems, Industry Automation Division, Siemens AG, Eckard Eberle appreciated Chengdu Municipality naming SEWC project as a "Priority Project". Eberle stated: "As a twin factory of EWA (Electronics Works Amberg) in Germany, Chengdu factory produces world class automatic products which create trustworthy and sustainable value to our customers around the globe."
Ever since Siemens had its optical fiber works in 1996 in Chengdu, Siemens has significantly and consistently increased its technologic investment at this area. In January 2003, Siemens provided Simatic systems to Chengdu Steel plant 60T Rotation Furnace project. Since the 12th Five-Year period started, Siemens has better leveraged its advanced products, solutions and systems to the region's improvement of efficiency and productivity. Siemens provided automation systems to a number of projects like Chengdu metro Line 2 and FAW-VW's new factory in Chengdu. In July 2011, first phase of FAW-VW Chengdu factory started production. Siemens facilitated the customer's most important automobile base in western China with state-of-art Simatic products.
