Socks with Sandals, Streaky Fake Tan and Y-Front Trunks Top List of Fashion Fails for Brits

With the warmer weather now upon us, new research released from COTTON USA has found that, according to 60% of Brits, the biggest fashion faux pas for summer is socks with sandals. For a third (34%) of those surveyed, streaky fake tan is the worst possible look for summer and for almost a quarter (23%), y-front swimming trunks are the biggest turn off.
We've all seen that guy who isn't afraid to bare his legs, even in January, and according to the new insights, 42% of those surveyed believe that eager Brits are guilty of embracing summer too early. Almost a third (29%) of men admitted to wearing shorts at the first glimpse of sunshine, regardless of the month of the year, and in addition 40% of brave women agreed that they would leave their arms exposed and wear a top without a coat on the first sunny day of the year.
The new insights show that almost half (48%) of Brits find it difficult to dress for summer. According to over three quarters (77%) of those surveyed, it is the unpredictability of the British weather which makes it tricky to know what to wear.
Alex Longmore is a celebrity stylist who has dressed stars such as Claudia Schiffer and Dannii Minogue. She explains: "For office workers, summer dressing can be a bit daunting. It's a massive faux pas to expose too much flesh and it's also tricky with air con pumping to get the right balance." She continued: "Go for breathable fabrics like U.S. cotton - there is nothing worse than feeling hot and sticky in an important meeting."
