Sparkling Wine's Changing Consumption and Innovation Driving Major Market Growth
BROMSGROVE, England, September 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
A brand new report has concluded that sales of sparkling wine (excluding champagne) are continuing to grow steadily in 80% of the category's major international markets.
The report, entitled 'Global Market Review of Sparkling Wine - Forecast to 2016', was published recently by IWSR and just-drinks.com, the leading online resource for the beverage industry. It highlights the increasing popularity of sparkling wine, which has grown by around 42.5m nine-litre cases since 2002.
"20 out of 25 sparkling wine markets posted increases (2002 - 2012) including four of the five largest markets - Germany, Russia, France and Italy." The report also states that "sparkling wine posted a steady 2.5% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) between 2006-2011. In 2011, the global growth rate was 0.89% over 2010."
Every day and special occasions…
According to the report, this growth can be attributed to a number of factors. Whilst consumption has traditionally been associated with special occasions, it is now taking place far more regularly as consumers increasingly view sparkling wine as an everyday drink. Strong product innovation has also been beneficial with rose sparkling wine among the developments that have delivered significant growth in sales to women and across a number of markets.
Furthermore, the report reveals that building "world-class brands capable of commanding premium prices" presents a considerable challenge that must be overcome in the future.
The report outlines the key factors driving the market, the associated issues and challenges, analysis from IWSR and 40 data tables on the world's major markets by retail value. It also provides the latest 2011 volumes for the top brands and producers by market alongside year-on-year trends.
