Spinnaker Support Offers a Path Forward to Rimini Street Customers
-- U.S. District Court summary judgment puts Rimini Street customers at risk of service loss
DENVER, March 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Spinnaker Support, a global market leader for SAP, JD Edwards, and Siebel third-party maintenance, application/technical management services, and consulting, today announced that it is providing a path forward for current Rimini Street customers that are concerned with the risk of service loss and vendor instability due to the recent U.S. District Court summary judgment ruling against Rimini Street, Inc.
The February 13, 2014 ruling by the U.S. District Court in Las Vegas found that third-party software support provider Rimini Street infringed Oracle's copyrights by making unauthorized copies of certain Oracle licensed products. Rimini Street had previously reported that, "Should Oracle prevail on its claims, we could be required to pay substantial damages for our past business activities and/or enjoined from certain business practices. Any of these outcomes could result in a material adverse effect on our business." In addition to the current summary judgment, several claims remain in the case and Oracle is poised to pursue those additional claims.
To help mitigate the risks to Rimini Street customers of potential service loss, Spinnaker Support has extended an offer to all Rimini Street SAP, JD Edwards, Siebel and EBS customers. The path forward offered by Spinnaker Support enables Rimini Street customers to receive the benefits of Spinnaker Support's third-party maintenance services at a significant discount to Rimini Street contract pricing.
Spinnaker Support's philosophy and methods for the delivery of third-party maintenance services includes concepts of strict intellectual property protection, individual client fixes, and services delivered solely in client controlled environments. Due to these tight controls, the company faces no litigation from the publishers of the software that they support.
"Competition is good within the marketplace. I hope that Rimini Street emerges with the ability to continue doing business," stated Spinnaker Support CEO, Matt Stava. "Third-party software maintenance remains a proven alternative to software vendor maintenance, delivering higher service quality at a much lower price point. The key is to provide these services the right way – in compliance with all laws and without violating the intellectual property rights of any party. Our priority is to preserve the integrity of the third-party maintenance model and protect the companies that have entrusted the maintenance and support of their enterprise software to Spinnaker Support. We've had multiple calls from Rimini Street's customer base since the summary judgment ruling and have concluded that we can offer their clients a path forward."
