Statement on BASF's Egypt Operations

BASF, considering the recent developments in Egypt, decided to temporarily close the offices and the production site (BASF Construction Chemicals) to avoid commuting its employees through or near to areas that are facing mass demonstrations on August 16 and 17.
At BASF, safety is a top priority and the Company considers its responsibility to maintain and operate a safe work environment for every employee. The decision of temporary closure of Egypt offices was made based on standard routines applied all over the world and in close cooperation with our corporate security experts. Future decisions will be made on daily evaluation.
BASF has done business in Egypt for around 60 years. About 100 persons belong to BASF's staff in Egypt. BASF's engagement with Egypt is a long-term one, foreseeing significant growth.
Being the world's leading chemical company, BASF does not change course in the event of temporarily challenging conditions. BASF is fully committed to its employees and customers in Egypt and has no intention to exit any of its operations in Egypt. BASF office and production site in Egypt is open today.
