OTTAWA, November 15, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --
What: Straightline Aviation will make an announcement at the Canadian Aerospace Summit in Ottawa, Canada, about an agreement to bring Lockheed Martin Hybrid Airships to the region.
When: 10:00 a.m. ET, Wednesday, Nov. 16
Where: Shaw Centre, 55 Colonel By Drive, Ottawa, ON, Room 209 (Media Room)
Interview/Photo Opportunities: There will be an opportunity to photograph the formal signing agreement and participate in a Q&A session following the announcement.
Background: The Hybrid Airship has the ability to land on virtually any surface including snow, ice, gravel and even water, with little to no runways required. Hybrid Airships combine the technology of lighter than air aircraft with airplanes, helicopters and hovercraft. Helium provides 80 percent of the lift, and the remaining lift comes from the aerodynamic shape of the aircraft and its four thrust vectoring engines. Both the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Transport Canada have agreed on the newly developed Hybrid Airship certification criteria which is being used to complete the type certification. First deliveries are scheduled in 2019.
