Teachers Assurance Pledges £50,000 to Let Teachers SHINE Competition
LONDON, March 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
Teachers Assurance, provider of savings, investments and insurance in the UK, has pledged £50,000 to the Let Teachers SHINE initiative with the support of Teachers Group Educational Trust (TGET).
Let Teachers SHINE is an annual competition run by the SHINE Trust which endeavours to find some of the country's most innovative teachers. 2014 will mark the third year of the initiative, which searches for inspiring and original ideas that aim to raise attainment amongst disadvantaged students.
Abby Bowman, Head of Brand and Marketing at Teachers Assurance said of the project: "We're excited to be sponsoring the 2014 Let Teachers SHINE project. Having worked with teachers for over 135 years, we understand their passion and determination for introducing innovative ways to encourage learning. We feel proud to be part of an initiative which allows teachers to bring their ideas to life and keeps the needs of disadvantaged pupils at the heart of its efforts."
The Let Teachers SHINE competition is open to entrants until Sunday 27th April 2014 and welcomes entries from all teachers who believe they could introduce a successful attainment raising programme. Past years' winning proposals have involved the innovative use of technology or exciting after-school programmes.
From all the entrants, up to ten winning projects showing the most promise will receive a grant of up to £15,000 each, in order to implement their ideas. The money pledged by Teachers Assurance with the support of Teachers Group Educational Trust (TGET) will fund at least three of 2014's winning projects. As part of their support, Teachers Assurance will also be involved with both the shortlisting and final candidate selection.
Paul Carbury, Chief Executive Officer at SHINE, thanked Teachers Assurance for their involvement. "At SHINE we believe that educational inequality is a matter of social justice. We are delighted that Teachers Assurance has decided to partner with us on Let Teachers SHINE, helping to give all children the best possible chances at school and beyond."
