Teleste Introduces a Unified Headend Solution at IBC2016
TURKU, Finland, September 9, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --
By utilizing Elemental's statistical multiplexing, operators can now reach up to 20% more bandwidth capacity while enjoying the efficiency of a unified headend
Teleste, a leading provider of video and broadband technologies and services, today announced that at IBC2016 it will introduce a unified headend solution based on both the company's headend platform and the state-of-the-art video processing technology of Elemental Technologies, the leader in software-defined video solutions. With the new solution, operators can reach up to 20% higher bandwidth capacity for delivering high resolution TV channels over cable TV, terrestrial and satellite networks while ensuring oustanding viewing experiences and rich, full-featured services for consumers at all times.
"As video and data traffic in cable networks gets more and more bursty, operators can greatly benefit from being able to accommodate the increasing number of bandwidth-hungry, high-resolution video and data services. With Elemental as our technology partner, we are thrilled to announce a solution that not only drives significant efficiency for operators in terms of optimizing bandwidth capacity but also ensures remarkable flexibility in service design, enabling rich and flexible content with which to win consumers over", said Julius Tikkanen, Vice President of Video Service Platforms for Teleste.
Cable TV networks are running out of free frequencies due to an ever-growing number of TV channels with higher video resolutions, the need for higher broadband speeds and new DOCSIS® standards. By utilizing statistical multiplexing operators can ensure the efficient usage of network capacity, which guarantees high-quality viewing experiences for consumers. It enables the dynamic allocation of bandwidth to channels that are currently transmitting in order to make the best use of the total available bandwidth and to maximize network efficiency. As a result, operators will be able to deliver an increasing amount of attractive content, such as premium HD and UHD channels in their cable TV, terrestrial and satellite networks.
The integrated solution uses the Teleste Luminato headend and Teleste Optimo transcoding services, powered by Elemental's software-defined video processing and statistical multiplexing in order to create a unified video delivery infrastructure in which headend components are seamlessly integrated. In addition to optimizing network usage, the unified headend solution enables operators to decrease network complexity, increase service reliability and enable flexible adaptation to future changes in consumer trends and service demands. The Luminato headend also furnishes the solution with such features as wide integration to content security and conditional access systems (CASs) and support for several simultaneously operating CASs, as well as rich EPG offerings enabled by the flexible gathering of EIT information.
