Hunting PLC, the international oil services company that sponsors the competition, announced that those interested in entering must be Texas residents and at least 18 years of age by Aug. 1, 2012.
Artists can participate by filling out the electronic sign up form available at www.huntingartprize.com and uploading one digital image of their artwork in a JPEG format. Single, two-dimensional paintings or drawings no larger than 72 inches by 72 inches will be considered for the prize.
All entries must be received by Hunting PLC no later than midnight, Friday, Nov. 30, 2012.
After submissions have been reviewed to ensure compliance with contest rules, the entries will be judged according to a two-tiered jury process. A panel of jurors will first evaluate the digital files and select individuals to move on to the final tier. Those chosen will be asked to submit the original artwork represented by their digital file for consideration in a second round of judging to determine the winning piece.
The recipient of the 2013 Hunting Art Prize will be announced at a gala on May 4 in Houston.
At a separate event following the gala, Hunting PLC will present a charitable contribution on behalf of the competition to New Danville, a self-sustaining, master-planned community supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This is the second consecutive year the nonprofit has been selected as the Hunting Art Prize charity.
The Hunting Art Prize is historically the most generous annual award in North America for painting and drawing. In 2006, the competition moved to Houston, where Hunting's North American headquarters are located, after a quarter-century in the United Kingdom.
