The 10 Commandments of Information Governance & eDiscovery in 2013
LONDON, March 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
"Govern your information before your information governs you!" - This is the first of 10 commandments set out by Sanjay Bhandari, Partner at Ernst & Young, in terms of what legal professionals must consider when executing an effective information governance process.
"A fully developed information governance strategy will reduce at source the risk, cost and volume of data in future eDiscovery exercises. Get it right and you get a measure of control. Get it wrong and your data controls you, and it becomes expensive," says Bhandari, outlining why the first commandment is integral to ensuring efficiency and economy.
The other commandments on this new list from Ernst & Young include: "Governance is not Someone Else's Problem - it's Yours," meaning that it's not the problem of the IT department, records management or compliance - it's a team responsibility; and the third commandment: "To Have and to Hold is Good, but not til Death Us Do Part," referring to the importance of selectivity when storing data.
