The Difference Between Financial and Sports Spread Bettors
LONDON, August 23, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --
Financial spread bettors are, on average, slightly older, slightly more wealthy and more likely to live in the south east compared to their sports spread betting counterparts.
That's the findings from Spreadex, one of the leading spread betting companies, following analysis of its financial and sports client base.
Clients actively placing financial spread bets were 94% male and had an average age of 46.3. Just over a third had an annual salary of more than £60,000 and a third lived within the M25.
Clients actively placing sports spread bets were 92% male and had an average age of 43.2. Just over a quarter had an annual salary of more than £60,000 and nearly three in 10 lived within the M25.
Spreadex Marketing Communications Manager Andy MacKenzie said: "The overall findings show that both financial spread betting and sports spread betting is a male dominated environment.
"Although there are slightly more female customers on the sports side, women still represent a very small amount of the overall number of people attracted to spread betting.
"Those interested in financial trading live close to major conurbations, with the majority located in the south east, whereas sports spread betting punters have a more even spread across the UK.
"Typically those who are attracted to financial spread betting view their activity as a serious and heavily researched alternative investment whereas sports spread betting is sometimes seen as a more fun and thrill-seeking gamble on a sports event.
"This mind-set therefore ties in with the fact that our active financial spread betting clients are on average slightly older and command a slightly higher salary level than our sports spread betting customers."
The analysis was based upon research of 5,000 of the firm's most recent financial traders compared to 5,000 of Spreadex's most recent sports spread bettors.
