ORPINGTON, England, October 16, 2017 /PRNewswire/ --
Real Asset Management (RAM), an MRI Software Company, supplies a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) that has enabled the SS Great Britain Trust to manage all maintenance processes in-house. The cost-effective software will allow the company to move away from spreadsheets and third party providers and establish greater control over its asset base and planned works. The Trust is a registered charity that conserves one of the most iconic ships in British history, the SS Great Britain, along with around 50,000 other objects and archives.

Designed by engineering icon, Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the SS Great Britain was the first iron, propeller-driven, ocean liner and the largest passenger ship in existence between 1843 and 1854. It was also the first steamer to cross the Atlantic, in 1845, taking 14 days. It made its final voyage in 1886 and has enjoyed a rich and varied retirement. It was docked in the Falkland Islands and used to store coal. Its iron was salvaged and repurposed to repair the HMS Exeter during the Second World War and eventually it found its way back to port in Bristol, where it was originally built. The SS Great Britain Trust is tasked with its conservation and has converted it into a museum ship and multi-award winning visitor attraction.
Prior to implementing RAM's CMMS, most of the company's planned maintenance was managed by a third party facilities management services provider. Paul Harrison, Head of Technical Services at the SS Great Britain Trust comments, "Our intention was to implement a system that would allow us to manage our assets, diarise planned maintenance and record all reactive tasks. Moving from spreadsheets and disparate diaries to a specialist solution will enable us to establish greater control over all of the work that takes place within the Trust."
The web-based CMMS helps organisations to manage all aspects of the maintenance cycle of equipment and items. It can hold a full history of works and asset related information, enabling users to reduce costs, equipment inactivity and the time it takes to report on planned and reactive tasks. The software features a calendar that work orders can be dragged and dropped into and colour-coded by priority, expediting the time it takes to allocate jobs whilst improving planning processes and the responsiveness of the labour force.
"The CMMS is a very comprehensive software package with great functionality," Harrison continues. "The system is intuitive, customisable and its features were understood quickly by all at the Trust. We initially enquired into a couple of options but found that RAM offered us a cost-effective solution that is capable of doing everything that we need it to do.
Harrison concludes, "Responses from RAM have been very prompt and impressive. All modification and customisation requests have been dealt with in a timely manner, allowing us to tailor the system to meet our specific business needs."
