In recent years, which have been the most relevant research projects in reproductive medicine, those that have innovated both clinical practice and patient treatment? The starting point for this initiative was the selection by an international panel of eight experts of the top ten papers in the field reproductive medicine published in recent years.
"This initiative in reproductive medicine," says Professor Carlos Simon from the Instituto Valenciano de Infertilidad (IVI) of Valencia, Spain and Scientific Organiser of the project, "is a very special and specific forum where people are thinking about the future of our specialty. This is the place where the most innovative and pioneering clinical and basic projects come together to explore how they will impact in the advancement of the field."
Within the project, SSIF organises an important meeting with leading international experts beginning today in Florence, where the authors of the ten selected papers will present their findings. Subsequently, an expert - the Challenger - will explain the strong and weak points, future perspective and conclusion of each paper, before opening the discussion with participants. "For this meeting," declares Doctor Robert Fisher, SSIF Scientific Committee Member and Medical Director Fertility Center Hamburg, "a new educational platform has been created. Through this project, it will be possible to exchange information in a so evolving field like reproductive medicine and participants will recognize how the best papers could improve their own scientific activity."
SSIF is also preparing the Top Ten Booklet that will be published worldwide in December 2013 in the journal "Science". The booklet will also include new articles by the Top Ten authors, as well as an introductory paper by international experts on the future developments of reproductive biology and medicine. In addition, a standalone digital version will also be provided on the "Science" journal website.
Serono Symposia International Foundation (SSIF) is a non-profit organization which was founded to disseminate among the scientific community the most innovative achievements and potential developments of medical and scientific research through Continuing Medical Education programs to improve the life of patients.
