Research in View leverages the unique expertise of Thomson Reuters in citations and bibliometric data, building upon Ohio State's foundational platform (OSU:pro), to support a full view of university activities and performance. The result of a multi-year partnership between the two organizations, this faculty profiling system collects data from multiple sources and in various formats, standardizing it to provide a unified database and analytic interface for managing, searching and reporting on key areas within an institution. Ohio State is the first university to implement this comprehensive, campus-wide system.
"Research in View will expand the University's ability to catalogue and retrieve comprehensive information about faculty members' professional activities and honors in order to track their accomplishments," said Ohio State's Executive Vice President and Provost Joseph A. Alutto. "Being able to continually update, retrieve, and assess this information helps the University with institutional collaboration and planning for future needs. In addition, in light of our goal of extending the reach of the University's discoveries and inventions through widespread, global applications, we are pleased to partner with Thomson Reuters on the launch of this beneficial platform."
The data captured in Research in View offers insight into the full spectrum of research, teaching and service activities, and will allow Ohio State to assess the impact of its strategic initiatives by quantifying its strengths and promoting its contribution to scholarship and the community. Faculty members can easily build and maintain profiles of their service, teaching, and research expertise, giving university administrators a complete picture of the university's intellectual assets and streamlining reporting activities.
"Many institutions are searching for ways to make the most of the information about their academic and research activities -- the problem is there is simply too much information for them to capture in one place," said Keith MacGregor, executive vice president at Thomson Reuters. "With Research in View, academic institutions will gain a unified and flexible system to identify opportunities for collaboration and growth. We are glad to have partnered with Ohio State University in this important endeavor."
Because it is the only web-hosted current research information system available, Research in View will eliminate hardware costs to Ohio State, while its data standardization process will allow for better collaboration with other institutions as well as greater return on research investment. Throughout the customized implementation, Thomson Reuters has been working with the university's administrators and technology teams to match their unique needs, and will provide ongoing support and training to all system users.
Research in View was developed by the Research Analytics business at Thomson Reuters in consultation with university administrators worldwide. It is fully integrated with Thomson Reuters tools that support strategic research decisions and the evaluation and management of research, including ResearcherID® and InCites™. This suite of solutions is fuelled by content from Web of Knowledge(SM) -- the most trusted discovery tool for scholarly research, and ScienceWire® -- a global platform for aggregating content and relating people, products, organizations, and outcomes.
