The laureate of the 3rd international OWA 2012 has been determined. Deeply moved, Nacianceno M. Pacalioga Jr. from Philippines - better known as Mayor Jun - accepted the 25,000 Euro prize check that was donated by Rapunzel Naturkost. The OWA jury recognized his visionary commitment and his impressive achievements in promoting organic agriculture and the sustainable, rural development of the municipality of Dumingag and its associated 44 villages.

As patron of the OWA, IFOAM also honors organic pioneer Ana Primavesi for her decisive role in promoting organic agriculture in Brazil and Latin America. The scientist and activist authored important text books and still lobbies actively for organic cultivation today at the age of 92.
It was a difficult decision for the jury with Vandana Shiva / India, Roberto Ugas / Peru, Joseph Wilhelm / Rapunzel Naturkost and Nnimmo Bassey / Nigeria to choose the winner from five inspiring and exemplary nominees and their successful projects: Nazmi Ilicali from Turkey coordinates thousands of organic farmers in Anatolia thus creating perspectives and alternatives to rural exodus. Premanjali Rao from India initiates ecological and social projects with the focus on poverty alleviation. Elba Rivera from Nicaragua works as educationalist and organic pioneer in numerous projects. Scientist Humberto Rios from Cuba has trained about 2,000 farmers to become seed-savers. All the finalists were honored with a cash prize of 2,000 Euro each. Inspiring people to take initiative and follow such good examples was the motivation for Joseph Wilhelm, founder and Managing Director of Rapunzel Naturkost, to create the OWA in 2008. "Even if many fellow human beings, big corporations and governments still try to ignore it: we definitely and ultimately sit in one and the same boat. There is only one world where we all live with the same rights and duties," emphasizes the German organic pioneer.
