Uber Signups Increase up to 590% in Germany in Last 24 Hours
BERLIN, September 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
● Signups across Germany 3.6X higher than the same period last week
● Hamburg sees highest increase with 590% increase in signups
● Uber rockets into top 10 most downloaded apps in Germany
Uber Germany has seen an unprecedented increase in signups in the last 24 hours despite attempts to limit transport choice to German consumers.
Uber signups were at least doubled in all the five German cities where Uber currently operates, with demand increasing by over 500% in both Hamburg (590%) and Dusseldorf (518%). The app is proving so popular in Germany that it is being downloaded by people who live in cities where Uber hasn't launched yet.
Consumers in Germany are downloading the Uber app because they want more choice. uberPOP is a fresh, innovative ride-sharing solution that combines both safety and flexibility by connecting riders with drivers to make better use of the cars already on the road, which supports the environment and helps drivers share the cost of car ownership. Uber is the fastest, cheapest and above all the safest way of getting around town, as all drivers on the Uber platform are licensed, vetted and insured.
Uber is in constant dialogue with policy-makers to help them better understand the benefits ride-sharing brings and will appeal against any decision made that seeks to restrict Uber's ability to provide its technology platform and app to German citizens.
Fabien Nestmann, Uber Germany spokesperson, said:
"We've just seen one of the biggest single-day increases in signups this year of Uber Germany, and this comes on top of five-fold growth since the start of the year. This kind of public support simply reinforces our commitment to Germany as we set to expand into more and more cities across the country. We have also seen huge demand in rural areas, as people look for a safe and convenient way to travel throughout the country in areas where public transport is not readily available.
"We love choice. We think choice is a beautiful thing. Consumers win, cities win, people win. It would seem some people are attempting to limit consumer choice for all the wrong reasons."
