Mr. Michael Duck, Executive Vice President of UBM Asia said: "We are very pleased to join hands with the HML in donating unconsumed food at the events we organise at HKCEC to Food Angel. UBM is not just committed to sustainability but also works to lead by example. UBM Asia organises seven large-scale international exhibitions at this venue every year and hundreds of on-site events are held concurrently on the occasion of these global business gatherings. This is a perfect example of how we work with venue owners, trade associations, business partners and our exhibitors and visitors in supporting sustainability."
"At HML, we are committed to be at the forefront of efforts to ensure continuous sustainability development and care for our community. We are delighted to have the full support from UBM Asia, a globally renowned exhibition organiser and a long term customer of the HKCEC, for the food recovery programme. Our partnership sets a pioneering example for venue operators and event organisers' contribution to the underprivileged. We hope to motivate other organisers to join this meaningful programme and our other sustainability and CSR initiatives," said Ms. Monica Lee-Muller, Managing Director of HML.
"We are pleased that HML supports our vision 'Waste Not - Hunger Not' by being a major partner of our food recovery programme. Apart from food donation from HKCEC's restaurants, HML also actively motivates event organisers to donate unconsumed food from their events. We will continue to work closely with HML and the event organisers to share love with the community and benefit more people in need," said Ms. Caribbean Chan, Chief Executive of Food Angel.
HML has participated in Food Angel's "Food Recovery Programme" since July 2011 and donated unconsumed food collected from dinner buffet and banquets at the HKCEC. HML's chefs froze the collected food in high speed chillers. The collected food is then reheated in Food Angel's central kitchen and distributed to low-income families and the elderly in Sham Shui Po and Wong Tai Sin Districts through charity organisations Tung Wah Group of Hospitals and Salvation Army. From July 2011 to June 2012, HML collected and donated a total of 446 kg of unconsumed food to Food Angel, equivalent to six months of dinner for a typical family of four.
UBM Asia had also supported Food Angel before. This February, UBM Asia Staff Social Club organised "Love . Share", a food donation event by inviting UBM Asia staff to donate unopened packages of candies, cookies, chocolates, instant noodles, tea bags and other preserved food to Food Angel. Four full boxes of food had been collected in three days and passed to Food Angel for distributing to the Hong Kong Society for the Protection of Children and other elderly homes.
